Wraggborough, Charleston

Situated between Mary, Calhoun, East Bay and Meeting Streets, downtown Charleston’s Wraggborough was so named by John Wragg in the 18th century. The streets of the neighborhood carry the first names of Wragg descendants. Adjacent to Marion Square and just a block over from the South Carolina Aquarium, the neighborhood was once considered the outskirts of Charleston Proper, settled by wealthy Anglos who wanted a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Today, the neighborhood still features many of the excellent dwellings erected by Wraggborough’s first residents in the 1800’s. This community is within walking distance of the College of Charleston and many fine eateries, and access to the Ravenel Bridge to Mt. Pleasant and I-26 is just a mile away.
