South Windermere, Charleston

Situated behind an older section of West Ashley and bordered by the Greenway and Wappoo Creek, the 500-home South Windermere neighborhood was developed in the 1950s and 1960s with some homes built into the 1990s. The mostly brick-constructed residences in the community range in size from around 1,000 to more than 4,000 square feet, and many of the marsh- and waterfront properties feature docks. In addition to an incredibly accessible location close to downtown Charleston, James Island, Folly Beach and the rest of West Ashley, the neighborhood is anchored by the South Windermere shopping center, which features an organic grocer, coffee shop, restaurants and shopping, and a branch of the Charleston County Public Library.
