South Of Broad, Charleston

Downtown Charleston’s most prestigious addresses and finest mansions are located at the tip of the peninsula in the area known as South of Broad. As you might guess, everything located below the peninsula’s Broad Street is considered part of the neighborhood. The grand homes in this area were constructed as early as the 1720s, and South of Broad is home to the famous Rainbow Row, which overlooks the Battery and harbor. Mixed in with the multimillion-dollar residences are luxurious bed and breakfasts, spas, art galleries and historic tourist attractions. The high-end shopping and fine dining of Charleston’s commercial district is just above the prominent neighborhood within easy walking distance, and Lockwood Drive provides convenient access to James Island, West Ashley and the interstate.
