Battery Island, Charleston

James Island’s Battery Island area is not a subdivision per se. If you take Folly Road to the lower edge of James Island, you’ll first arrive at the intersecting Battery Island Drive. The homes here are older residences, built between 1945 and 1985. The road runs parallel with the marsh, and the views from the homes in this area are incredible.

If you keep driving toward Folly Beach past Battery Island Drive, you’ll next come to the historic Sol Legare area. At the end of Sol Legare Road is a small islet and a boat landing into the Stono River. Several homes on Sol Legare Road and Fiddlers Island Lane are considered part of the Battery Island subdivision, according to Charleston County tax records. The residences in this secluded island-getaway area are luxury estates with swimming pools, private docks and price tags between $500,000 and $2 million.
